フィリピン留学準備(?) - 洋楽を歌ってみよう

勉強に疲れたときには気分転換に洋楽を歌ってみましょう。ついでに発音の練習にもなるかもしれません。

また、暗唱できるようになっておけば、留学のときにも話のネタに使えるかもしれませんね。

下記は広く知られていて、個人的におすすめの４曲です。

キリスト教の讃美歌であり、かつ海外では葬式で歌われる曲のようですので、歌う場面を選ぶ曲かもしれません。

なお、歌詞中に出てくる「T’was」は「It was」を短縮したものです。古い使い方のようです。

どうでもいい話ですが、個人的には、白い巨塔のエンディングで使われていたのが記憶に残っています。

スタジオジブリの映画「耳をすませば」で使われているので、日本では馴染みのある曲と思います。

ウェストバージニア州の州歌にもなっているようで、同州に訪れた際にはぜひ歌ってみたいものですね。

リズミカルな曲で、歌いやすいのもグッドポイントです。

なお、ウィキペディアによると、「ただし、『Almost heaven, West Virginia. Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah river』と歌われるブルーリッジ山脈は全くウェストバージニア州を通っておらず、シェナンドー川もわずかにウェストバージニア州にかかるだけで、そのほとんどは隣のバージニア州を流れている。」だそうです。

サビの部分のメロディ、なんとなく聞いたことがある方は多いと思います。

内容・メロディともに非常にきれいな曲なのですが、音程が高く歌うのに技量が必要そうなことが難点ですね。

雨が降った時に歌いたい曲ナンバーワンですね。日本の「春雨じゃ濡れて行こう」の精神に通ずるものがあります。

行友李風(ゆきともりふう)作の新国劇「月形半平太(つきがたはんぺいた)」で、主人公が傘を差し掛ける舞妓に言う有名なせりふ。

歌いやすい曲調なのもグッドポイントです。
